Fighting for a Cure

14th Sep 2017

In January 2017, my beautiful wife Michelle was diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive brain cancer there is. All the warning signs were now explained. The slight memory lapses, the unexplained tiredness and low energy, and the headaches that were increasingly getting worse. Something was not right, but she never imagined the true cause. By the time the tumour was discovered, Michelle was in stage 4 and given a late-stage cancer treatment plan.

Michelle accepted the challenge to fight the tumour, despite the indications that her prognosis was not good. Five weeks of radiation therapy and then a short stint of chemotherapy could not halt its progress and we soon knew that this battle was bigger than imagined.

After just 6 short months, Michelle’s battle was over and we had to say goodbye to our beloved wife, mother and friend.

Michelle has been the backbone of Inverell Heavy Vehicle Training since we established the business. She was my business partner and support through government red tape and trucking industry nightmares. Like all good trucking wives, she would cheerfully hold the fort at our small farm during weeks away on hay runs and business.

Before Michelle passed away, she chose the Mark Hughes Foundation as her charity of choice. This organisation is based in our region and was established to raise much needed resources and funding for brain cancer research. The Mark Hughes Foundation is fighting for a cure. We invite you to be part of this cause, eliminating brain cancer within our lifetime.
